ICC Raises another One Million for Charity

The ICC Group (Independent Cash & Carry Group) held their annual charity golf day fundraiser on the 11th April 2013 at Woodhill Country Club. The event was yet again fully subscribed, with suppliers showing full support to reach the milestone set for 2013.

Sizeable donations were made at the prize giving dinner by ICC's CEO Gert Scheepers to three of ICC's chosen charities for the year. The recipients receiving the donations were The Smile Foundation (R200 000), Little Eden (R50 000) and Joost van der Westhuizen's charity, J9 (R50 000).

The remainder of the funds were then distributed to ICC's member companies to use within their own community development projects. Companies that benefitted last year included The Rhino Pledge Project, National Institute for the Deaf, The Elim Hlanganani Society for the care of the Aged and Hospice to name several of the 35 charities assisted.

The day went off extremely well, with a variety of interesting themed watering holes showcasing some of the suppliers latest products. Golfers also stood the chance to win an Audi A1 for a hole-in-one at Woodhill's 2nd hole, however unfortunately there was no perfect fluke on this day.

Gert Scheepers, CEO of ICC handed over the cheques and thanked the three charities present for their dedication, passion and hard work to these causes.

The Smile Foundation has received donations from ICC year on year, and recently held their "Mini Smile week" at the Dr George Mukhari Hospital on the 28th February. ICC staff and suppliers were privileged to witness first hand the lives that are changed, by the work of the country's Adacemic Hospitals and talented surgical teams. Scheepers commented: "We as the ICC Group are pleased to be making a difference in the lives of children who desperately need facial surgery. To see them able to smile again and have a brighter future is key to their plight and we look forward to changing lives through our contribution."
