ICC Strive to Make Every Day a Mandela Day

The ICC Group strive to honour Mandela's call to "Act to change the world for the better" through their numerous community serving gestures throughout the year. This included Mandela Day on July 2014, where ICC gave large grocery hampers to all caddies at Woodhill Country the 18th Club.

Earlier on in the year on the 10th golf day. The funds were donated to The Smile Foundation, PinkDrive and over 20 other charities chosen by ICC's member stores. ICC also sponsor the annual Young Community Shapers Award (YCS), where the 2014 winners will be announced at the gala dinner on the 29th honours, celebrates and rewards youth who are making a difference in their communities for no financial gain.

A key charity that ICC have been supporting for a number of years is The Smile Foundation.

This year, ICC were able to raise R550 000 for the foundation, thanks to ICC's key supplier and member companies financially supporting their charity golf day by entering teams, sponsoring watering holes and donating to the various "fun fines." Personal contributions from golf day attendees also contributed to the fund raising to which ICC is extremely grateful.

Through the funding, The Smile Foundation was able to host an ICC Smile week at the Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital. During this Smile Week week, 20 patients received surgeries for various facial deformities such as cleft lip and palate, burns, burn reconstruction, as well as a maxillofacial surgery. The funds were also used to purchase surgery lights for the hospital, to which Professor Zacharais Francois Annandale was extremely thankful!

ICC supported all these patients and the hospital to make changes in their lives and were privileged to attend the ICC Smile Week. Gert Scheepers, CEO of The ICC Group hosted key suppliers from Tiger and Sasko Commercial as well as ICC member store Big Save.

Scheepers commented: "We have personally seen lives being changed by the surgeries and how these children are given a new start to life. We look forward to expanding our involvement through an awareness campaign to educate the communities where our stores are located. The message is that there is hope for these children with no financial burden. Thank you to the Smile Team and smiles you give to the world!"

Moira Gerszt, Operations Executive Director from The Smile Foundation responded: "It is heart-warming to once again have the Independent Cash and Carry Group work together with our NGO in making a difference to these children's lives. Thank you to everyone who worked so tirelessly to offer this opportunity to offer these children's new confidence and a positive self-ego moving forward in their lives."
