ICC Buying Group Raises a Million rand for Charity

The ICC Buying Group once again raised a million rand for over 30 charities around the country at their recent charity golf day. The event again took place at the spectacular Woodhill Country Club on the 16th April 2015, in one of the most memorable charity golf days hosted by ICC to date!

The theme of the day was Roll Back in line with ICC's April campaign and golfers were taken back in time to experience what golf was like when it first started – with plus fours and hickory clubs! Bagpipes, whisky tasting, Chevrolet's, vintage cruisers and a tombola were part of the festivities on the day. The theme was also exceptionally well embraced in fun and creative ways by all ICC's watering holes suppliers who contributed to the fund raising through their sponsorship.

The Smile Foundation was the benefactor of a large portion of the funds, receiving a cheque for R350 000 from ICC Buying Group's CEO, Gert Scheepers at the prize giving dinner.

"ICC is a company that cares, cares and cares." Commented Hedley Lewis, Executive Director of The Smile Foundation. "Children are going to receive facial reconstructive surgery as a result of ICC uniting suppliers and supporters. Children's futures will be changed by the incredible surgical team, which work together with the Smile Foundation in South Africa's government academic hospitals. A special thank you to one and all."

Another significant contribution was made towards PinkDrive's new charity called More Balls Than Most that focuses funds on driving awareness of prostrate cancer. Antoinette Joubert and her team from PinkDrive were a valuable part of the golf day, promoting awareness at their watering hole where a Porsche 911 was up for grabs for the first hole-in-one.

Joubert commented: "Thank you ever so much for making MBTM the beneficiary and for donating the amazing amount of R100 000.00. Thank you for the platform created for us on Thursday. We do have high appreciation for the initiative and your support will help us to reach out to communities to educate them and drive the message that 'early detection can save your life."

The remainder of the funds are used by ICC Buying Group's members towards projects that they each identify to uplift their communities and make a positive contribution. These include North West Mental Health, Membership in Christ, Mohau Centre Kanana Lesego Home, Breede River Hospice, The Velddrif Sopkombuis, Herberg Kinderhuis, Joseph Matwa Old Age Home, National Institute of the Deaf, Institute for the Blind, Thandanani Community Projects, Ambassadors In Sport (AIS), Leratong Hospice, Lesedi Day Care Centre, Noma Health Care Project, Galeshwe Association for the Aged and Disabled, Hospice, Hope for the Living, Helen Bishop Home, Ikageng Presbyterian Church, Harvest Ministries Soup Kitchen, MAMA – Africa Helping Care Centre, Agang Sechaba Kimberley, Masifimdisane Youth Council and Relay for Life Com/SA Kimberley.

ICC would like to thank the following key suppliers for being part of the day and helping to raise the one million rand for charity: ABSA, Adcock Ingram, Aldor, Aspen Nutritionals, Aspen Pharmacare, Bambisana, Brenner Mills, Colgate, Clover SA, Danone SA, Diplomat, Entyce, ESE SA, GlaxoSmithKline, Hendler & Hart, Kelloggs, Little Green Beverages, Loreal, Lucky Star, Mondelez, Nestle SA, Paul Marks Woodhill CC Resident Pro, Parmalat, Pioneer Essential Foods, Pioneer Foods, Premier Milling, Prestige, Quality Sugar, RCL Foods Consumer Division, Retail Brands, Retailer Brands, Snackworks, Tiger Brands Culinary, Tiger Brands Milling Grains, Tiger Brands Snacks, Treats and Beverages, Total SA, Twizza Beverages, Unilever Group, Wiesenhof, Woodhill Residential, Estate & Country Club.
